SAMUEL BURNS died at his home at Roaring Spring last night, of a complication of diseases, aged 69 years. He is survived by six children - Scott and Harry of Bellwood, Grant of Roaring Spring, Mrs. David [Rheuanna] Albright and Mrs. Miles [Nancy Ellen] Helsel of Roaring Spring and Mrs. David [Melcene Veldee] Lynn of Johnstown. He was a member of the Methodist church and a veteran of the civil war. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 1 o'clock, from his late home. Interment in Green Lawn cemetery, Roaring Spring.

[Note: I recently learned from a surviving daughter of "Mrs. David Lynn" that her father's true name was Myles Lloyd Lynn. To prevent future confusion, I thought it best to include this information here. Apparently, the obituary typesetter made an error and used "David" instead. Also, the names in brackets are my own additions. Samuel's three sons' full names were Robert Scott, Harrison Monroe, and Ulysses Grant Burns.]

Marriage of Local Girl and Son of Late Pastor Announced Today

Mrs. Melcene B. Lynn of 961 Martin Street announced the marriage of her daughter Katharyne to George K. Tomes of Gary, Ind., at a pretty luncheon this afternoon at the Capital Hotel. The ceremony took place in the Bedford Street Evangelical Church Saturday morning, October 5, at 10 o'clock and was performed by the bride's pastor, Rev. F.E. Hetrick, Ph. D., in the presence of the mothers of the contracting pair and Mrs. Hetrick. Mrs. Hilton Bowman presented a 20-minute organ recital preceding the ceremony. The couple was unattended.

For her wedding the former Miss Lynn wore her mother's wedding dress of ivory taffeta and lace and elbow length gloves. She carried a hand-embroidered handkerchief of her grandmother's. Her flowers were a corsage of gardenias. The bride's mother wore Alice-blue lace with black accessories and the bridegroom's mother was attired in soldier-blue crepe with navy accessories. Both had shoulder corsages of deep-shaded rosebuds. After a wedding breakfast at the Capital Hotel the couple departed for a short honeymoon trip to New York City.

Both the bride and the bridegroom graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, following graduation from Johnstown High School and Emerson High of Gary, respectively. Mrs. Tomes has been a visitor with the Department of Public Assistance and its predecessors, SERB and the Mothers Assistance Fund organizations. Mr. Tomes is identified with the treasury department of the International Harvester Company in Chicago.

The former Miss Lynn's father was the late M.L. Lynn. Mr. Tomes is a son of Mrs. Edna Tomes of Gary and the late Rev. O.E. Tomes, who was pastor of the First Christian Church, Vine Street, for eight years prior to his death in April, 1935.

Guests from this city and from Pittsburgh and Harrisburg attended the announcement luncheon. The young couple will be at home after December 1 in Gary.
