A well known resident of Roaring Spring, died at the Nason hospital at that place at 7.30 o'clock last evening of paralysis. Deceased was aged 61 and had resided at that place for some time. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and these children:  J.S. and S.C., of Hollidaysburg; Mrs. Grant Burns, and Mrs. Levi Albright, of Roaring Spring; Mrs. William Burket, of Curryville; Mrs. Blair Smaltz of Jamestown, N.Y., and Mrs. H.B. Lotz of Harrisburg.

MRS. BARBARA (SNOWBERGER) HAINLEY

 

Member of one of Morrisons cove's early pioneer families, died last evening at 6.30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Burget, at Curryville, death being attributed to a complication of ailments incident to advanced age. She was a daughter of Frederick and Susan Snowberger and was born in Taylor township on Oct. 26, 1851. She was united in marriage with Samuel N. Hainley at Martinsburg on Jan. 1, 1872. Mrs. Hainley was a member of the East Sharpsburg Reformed church for the past forty-three years. Surviving are two sons and four daughters, Jerry and Edward Hainley of Hollidaysburg, Mrs. William Burget, Mrs. Rebecca Lotz of Bellwood, Mrs. Levi Albright of Roaring Spring and Mrs. Blair Smaltz of Jamestown, N.Y., and twenty-three grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Friends are being received at the home of her daughter in Curryville.

HAINLEY--Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Snowberger Hainley will be conducted in the Reformed church at East Sharpsburg Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be made in the Albright Church of the Brethren cemetery south of Roaring Spring. Friends are being received at the home of the daughter, Mrs. William Burget at Curryville.

Wife of Grant Burns, died at the Nason hospital at Roaring Spring this morning at 11.40 o'clock following an operation. She was aged 33 years, 2 months and 16 days. She was the daughter of Samuel N., deceased, and Barbara Hainley, and is survived by her husband, one son, one step daughter, and her mother; also by the following brothers and sisters:  J.S., and E.S., of Hollidaysburg; Mrs. H.B. U. GRANT BURNS

 

U. Grant Burns of Roaring Spring who served as mill foreman for the Roaring Spring planing mill for the past 46 years, died at the Nason Hospital at noon Thursday, June 22, [1950-ed.] after being ill the past seven weeks.

 

Mr. Burns was born Aug. 17, 1873, at Roaring Spring, the son of Samuel and Catherine Colbert Burns, and was married three times, first to Margaret Moore [should read "Mosel"-ed.] and second to Jane Hanley. Both are deceased. On Jan. 20, 191[*], [20 June 1915-ed.] he was married to Bertha E. Snyder, at Lakemont, by Rev. Cyrus Nonemaker, and she survives with one daughter to the first union, Mrs. Emory Ross of Warriors Mark; one adopted son, Samuel Brown of Johnstown; two daughters, Dorothy and Marie, at home, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

 

Mr. Burns was a member of the Bare Memorial Church of God, Roaring Spring. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the above named church, conducted by Rev. Charles Wright and Rev. W.H. Hower. Interment in Greenlawn cemetery, Roaring Spring.

Miss Mary G. Hanley

 

ALTOONA, Feb. 23.--Miss Mary Golda Hanley, of Grandview West, Juniata, a registered nurse and a graduate of the Mercy Hospital in this city, died last Saturday morning, death being attributed to a complication of diseases. The deceased was born February 8, 1891, at East Sharpsburg, the daughter of Daniel and Mary D. Hanley, the father being deceased. Surviving are three sisters:  Mrs. Ralph Shaw and Mrs. Norman Musselman, both of this city, and Mrs. J.A. Brubaker, of St. Benedict, Cambria County. A brother, William Hanley, of Grandview, also survives. The funeral services were held this afternoon at the latter's home, in charge of the Rev. W.S. Long and the Rev. C.O. Berry, former pastors of the deceased. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Juniata. Interment was in Grandview Cemetery.

MRS. AMANDA HANLEY

 

Formerly of Duncansville, died at 12.45 o'clock this morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Edna Dodson of 2413 Fifth avenue, after an extended illness. She was born in Duncansville April 4, 1867, a daughter of Alpherd and Mary (Stiffler) Wilt. Her husband, David Hanley, died several years ago. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Dodson; one son, Wilmer D. of Duncansville, five grandchildren, one great-grandson, and one brother, Emanuel E. Wilt of Duncansville. One son preceded her in death. Mrs. Hanley was a member of the Newry Lutheran church. Friends will be received at the N.A. Stevens mortuary after 7 o'clock this evening.
