FRED
F. SPRENGEL OF MORRELLVILLE SUCCUMBS IN AUTO
Victim of a heart attack while seated in
his automobile, Fred F. Sprengel, 56, of 196 Barron Ave., well-known plasterer,
died unexpectedly early last evening. Mr. Sprengel was found dead in his car
about 5:15 p.m. on the Cresson-Ebensburg Rd., near Munster.
Coroner Patrick McDermott, who conducted
an investigation, said that the West End man apparently had pulled his car to
the side of the highway to take some pills which had been prescribed by a
Johnstown physician. The pills were found on the seat. It appeared that after
Sprengel was stricken, the car drifted down the highway a distance of 165 feet
before coming to a stop against an embankment on the opposite side of the road.
Mr. Sprengel's death was discovered by a
passing motorist, G.H. Powers of Pittsburgh, who notified State Police in
Ebensburg. The West End man, employed recently in Wilkinsburg, was believed to
have been on his way home when he was stricken.
Born at Elton, a son of the late
Frederick and Mary (Fisher) Sprengel, the deceased resided in Morrellville for
35 years and was engaged in the plastering business for the past 25 years. He
was secretary of the Johnstown Plasterers Union.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lillian
(Clark) Sprengel, and these brothers and sisters--William, Von Lunen Rd.;
August, Gordonville, Va.; Herman, Hayes St.; Mrs. Marion Ryan, California, and
Mrs. Margaret Richey, Cleveland. One sister preceded him in death.
Mr. Sprengel was a member of the Grace
Lutheran Church. Friends are being received at the A.A. Wagner Funeral Home,
where funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 o'clock Monday afternoon by
Rev. J.A. Brosius, pastor of the Grace church. Interment will be in Grandview
Cemetery.
