Mrs. Agnes Griffith
BOLIVAR-Mrs. Agnes (Snyder) Griffith, 88, died at 2:40 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home in West Bolivar after an extended illness. She was born in Fairfield Twp. on Aug. 5, 1856. Surviving are eight children-Calvin and Mrs. Farella Dougherty, both of Altoona; Cameron and Don Rolph, both at home; Adam, Jeannette; Bennett, Coraopolis; Sanford, Landenburg, Pa., and Mrs. Dorinda Cunningham, Robinson. A daughter, Mrs. Sarah Berkey, is dead. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Griffith had been a member of the Bolivar Methodist Church since 1886.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home by Rev. F.L. Teets, pastor of the Bolivar Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Fairfield Presbyterian Cemetery under the direction of R.S. Wagner, New Florence mortician.

MRS. J.L. GRIFFITH HAS PASSED AWAY
Westmoreland Octogenarian Had Been Ill of Complication of Diseases Since Fall
Phoebe (Snyder) Griffith, widow of James L. Griffith, who had been ill of a complication of diseases, including paralysis, for some months, died at her home in St. Clair Township, Westmoreland County, near New Florence, at an early hour yesterday morning, aged 80 years. Mrs. Griffith was one of the oldest members of the Presbyterian Church, New Florence, whose minister, the Rev. N.E. Koehler, will have charge of the funeral services at the Griffith homestead at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, with interment in the family plot in the West Fairfield Cemetery.
Mrs. Griffith was born on the Snyder estate about a mile and a half from New Florence in December, 1849, and was identified with one of the earliest families to locate in that vicinity. Miss Snyder and James L. Griffith, a pioneer farmer in St. Clair Township, were married near New Florence many years ago. J.L. Griffith passed away at the Griffith home six years ago. Mrs. Griffith is survived by four sons, four daughters, 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The sons and daughters are George and Albert Griffith of New Florence; James Griffith, jr., of Pitcairn; Chauncey Griffith, at home; Mrs. Elizabeth Cline, of Bolivar; Mrs. Anna Kuckenbrod, of Pitcairn; Mrs. Edward May, of Somerset, and Mrs. Ida Smith, of New Florence.

He was a member of the New Florence Presbyterian Church, and was preceded in death by his parents and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Elizabeth Cline, Mrs. Myrtle May, Mrs. Ida Smith and James and Albert Griffith. Surviving is a brother, Chauncey "Chan", New Florence; and a sister, Mrs. Anna Cuchenbroad, Pitcairn; also several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ida Mae Griffith Smith of Ligonier street, New Florence, expired at her home Saturday after a lengthy illness. She was 84, and was the widow of Dr. James T. Smith who served the New Florence area as a dentist for some years prior to his death in 1923. The daughter of James L. and Phoebe Meyers Griffith was born Oct. 22, 1881, in St. Clair Township, was a lifelong member of New Florence United Presbyterian Church and was a member of Hood-Vanatt American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by three brothers (George Griffith of New Florence, Chauncey D. of RD 1 New Florence, and Albert L. of Mount Vernon, Ohio) and a sister (Mrs. Annie Kuchenbroad of Pitcairn). Rev. William J. Green conducted final rites Tuesday in Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, and she was buried in Fairfield Presbyterian Cemetery.

Chauncey D. "Shane" Griffith, 95, of New Florence R.D. 1, died Monday, Sept. 28, 1981, in Lee Hospital, Johnstown. Mr. Griffith was born Nov. 6, 1885, in New Florence, a so nof the late James L. and Phoebe (Myers) Griffith. He was the oldest member of New Florence United Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of Mexican border conflict and World War I, and member of Menoher Post 155, VFW, and Hood Vanatt Post 307, American Legion, New Florence. He served as a state forest fire warden for 30 years. He was preceded in death by brothers, James, George and Albert, and sisters, Ida Smith, Elizabeth Cline, Myrtle May and Anna Kuchenbrod. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received today (Wednesday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. R. Paul Beatty officiating. Burial will follow in Fairfield Cemetery.

Albert L. Griffith, 77, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, formerly of New Florence, died last Wednesday at Mercy Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was living with his daughter at the time of his death. Born in Nov. 22, 1888, in St. Clair Township to James L. and Phoebe (Myers) Griffith, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Ida Smith, in 1965. He is survived by these children: Mrs. Ida Price and James, both of Mount Vernon; also 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Anna Kuckenbroad of Pitcairn; and brothers, Chancey and George, both of RD 1, New Florence. A retired Pennsylvania Railroad employee, he was a member of the Johnstown Lodge 48, Loyal Order of Moose. Services were held Saturday in the Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, with the Rev.
