Notes for Thomas Osburn HAYDEN:

The Family Bible of Thomas Osburn Hayden and his wife Mary (Hayden) Hayden, transcribed by Michael Scott Caldwell 8 July 1999. As of July 1999, the aforementioned family bible is in the possession of Mrs. Evette Anderson, 2009 Kansas Avenue, White Oak, Pennsylvania. I viewed and hand-transcribed the bible on 8 July 1999, with Evette's full cooperation. I also photographed the pages, as the bible seemed to be too fragile to be photocopied. Stamped on the inner cover of the bible is the name of Lewis T. Hayden, East Liverpool, Columbiana Co. Ohio. Lewis was a grandson of Thomas Osburn Hayden, being the son of Thomas' son William.

The Bible was printed in 1815. Thomas Osburn Hayden was married in 1816, so I feel it is safe to assume that the bible was given to Thomas as a wedding gift, and that at least a portion of the handwriting is either his or his wife's.

Much of the bible is still legible, but the parts that weren't are indicated by underscores: [____].

A very similar account to the paragraphs below appears in the same author's posthumously-published book, "Ritchie County In History and Romance", edited by Barr Wilson, and published in 1990 by the McClain Printing Company, Parsons, West Virginia. Several minor additions to the text below are added from this source [in brackets].
