On Oct. 25, 1797 Jacob Klotz purchased 64 acres of land in York Co. (now Adams Co.), PA in Mt. Joy Township.

The 1798 Glass Tax for York Co. PA, lists Jacob Cluts in Mt. Joy Township with 58 acres of land adjoining James McTihinny and Samuel Linn valued at $377.00. His house was a one-story 17 x 20 with 3 windows and 12 panes. His barn was 75 x 24 and his stable was 22 x 20. In the 1799 tax listing Jacob Cluts had two horses and three cattle.

The Will of Jacob Clutz

In the name of God Amen! I Jacob Clutz of Adams County, Pennsylvania, being in a weak state of bodily health but of a sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, considering the certainty of death, and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desiring to settle my worldly affairs that I may be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say, first and principally, I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the direction of my executrix and executor herein after named and after all my just debts and funeral charges are paid it is my will and order that all my estate both real and personal be and remain the property of my dearly and well beloved wife, Barbara Clutz during her natural life in case she remain my widow but in case she marries again it is my will and order that she receive no part of my estate, except one horse, saddle and bridle, one feather bed and bedclothes, also it is my will and order that in case any thing should turn up so that my wife shall find it impossible to keep the place she shall be at liberty in union with my executor to sell the place and make as full and as good a title as I myself could now do, and that she shall receive the interest of three hundred pounds during her natural life to be put to interest out of the first payment of the place. Also it is my will and order that my wife keep and raise my children out of my estate and at her decease, that my estate both real and personal be equally divided amongst my six children:  Molly Clutz, Susannah Clutz, Rachel Clutz, George Clutz, Jacob Clutz, Joseph Clutz, also it is my will and order that my three sons above named be learned to read and write in English and to figure as far as the scale of three and each of them to be learned a trade, also it is my will and order that all my six children shall stay with their mother, and help her on the place until they are twenty-one, except the time that the boys are learning their trades or in case that any of them should marry. And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my dearly beloved wife, Barbara Clutz, my Executrix and my Brother, John Clutz, my executor of this my last will and testament, revoking and anuling all and former wills by me heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this and none other to be my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this third day of January in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred and Eight.

Isaac Newton, farmer and stock-dealer, sec. 11; is the son of Charles and Mahala (Louderback) Newton, and was born in Putman Tp., Aug. 14, 1836, and has never lived 3 miles from where he lives now. His father died about 20 years ago and his mother lives in Canton. In 1864 Mr. N. was drafted to serve in the war, but hired a substitute whom he gave $1,000 to take his place. He was united in marriage with Rebecca Cluts at Bernadotte, this county. There has been born to them 5 sons and 2 daughters:  Charles J., Phebe, Caroline, deceased, A. Lincoln, Frank, Oliver and John.
