Samuel Lape.

JENNERSTOWN, Aug. 1 -- Samuel Lape, aged 83, died yesterday morning at the A.O. Lape home in Jenner Township following an illness of several months of diseases incident to age. He was a retired farmer, having operated on a farm in Jenner Township for more than 40 years.

Surviving are two half-brothers, Levi Lape of Somerset R.D., and John Lape of Kelso. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Blough Mennonite Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery, under the direction of J.H. Hoffman, Boswell mortician. The remains have been removed to the Peter Lake home in Jenner Township.

MRS. THOMAS, IN 90TH YEAR, DEAD

Former Miss Lucinda Lape, of Thomas' Mills, Born Near Foustwell

Mrs. Lucinda Thomas, widow of Daniel Thomas, died of a complication of ailments between 3 and 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home in Thomas' Mills, Somerset County, where she had been ill for several weeks. She was born near Foustwell, Somerset County, almost 90 years ago, a daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Livingston) Lape, who have been dead for many years. Mrs. Thomas was a sister of Samuel Lape, of near Boswell, and a half-sister of John Lape, of Kelso, and Levi Lape, of near Somerset. A brother, Henry Lape, expired in the West some 20 years ago. Two sisters also preceded her to the grave. They were Mrs. Katherine Gilbert and Mrs. Sarah Alwine. The date of Mrs. Thomas' birth was October 12, 1843.

Lucinda Lape and Daniel Thomas, son of John Thomas, jr., were married at Davidsville in 1875, by Hiram Boyts, J.P. Mr. Thomas' death occurred in November, 1927. Mrs. Thomas is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane, wife of John Rhoads, of Thomas' Mills; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Susanna Lehman, of near Davidsville; four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Thomas Mennonite church, the services to be in charge of the Rev. Samuel G. Shetler, of near Kelso, and the Rev. Russell Shilling, of Davidsville, with interment in the church cemetery. Mrs. Thomas had been affiliated with the Mennonite Church for about 56 years.

Jacob Lape.

At the home of his daughter, located about two miles above Davidsville, Jacob Lape died at 3:40 o'clock yesterday morning, aged sixty-three years. Paralysis affected Mr. Lape one year ago, and previous to that he had been in poor health. Since the stroke of paralysis his condition had grown gradually worse until his death.

Mrs. Lape survives her husband, with the following children:  William, married and living at Stanton's Mill; Peter, married and living in Jenner Township; Henry, of the Eighth Ward, this city; Louisa, wife of Austin Zimmerman, at whose home Mr. Lape died, and Sadie, single and at home. Mrs. Josiah Berkey, another daughter, died in Conemaugh Township three years ago, and other children passed away in their infancy.

The surviving brothers and sisters of Jacob Lape are as follows:  Henry, of Nappanee, Ind.; Joseph, of near Davidsville; Samuel, of Johnstown; Levi, of Milford, Somerset County; John, of Conemaugh Township; Mrs. Daniel Thomas, of Conemaugh Township; Sarah, wife of Noah Alwine, of this city.

Jacob Lape was a member of the Mennonite Church. Funeral services over his remains will be held in the Blough Church of that denomination at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Elders S.D. Yoder and James Saylor will officiate.

JOSEPH LAPE, 74, EXPIRES IN DALE

Somerset County Septuagenarian Passes Away While Here on a Visit

Joseph Lape, aged 74 years, whose home was near Jerome, Somerset County, died last evening at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence R. Horner, 901 Nathaniel street, Dale, where he had been on a visit. Mr. Lape came to Johnstown some weeks ago and was the guest of his son, Herman Lape, of Ferndale, for a short time before going to Dale to visit the Horner family. He became ill of a complication of diseases, including dropsy, about a month ago and had been bedfast for the last three weeks. Short funeral services will be held at the Horner home at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon by the Rev. W.D. Keller, pastor of the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, after which the body will be taken to the Maple Springs Church of the Brethren, near Jerome, where additional services will be held.

The deceased was born in Richland Township, this county, in 1850, being a son of Joseph and Catherine (Livingston) Lape. He was a brother of Samuel, John, and Levi Lape, all residing in Somerset County, where two other brothers, Jacob and Henry Lape, expired some years ago. The deceased and Miss Maria Rummel, daughter of John Rummel, were married at Davidsville, about 1870. Mrs. Lape's death occurred in the fall of 1915, when the family resided at Holsopple. Seven sons and daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Lape. Ella, wife of Elias Miller, having expired in Dale Borough about nine years ago, and Ida, passing away at the age of four years. The surviving sons are Herman, of Ferndale; William, of near Jerome, where Mr. Lape made his home since the death of his wife, and Lemon, of Holsopple; the daughters are Mary, wife of Clarence R. Horner, mentioned above, and Minnie, wife of Lester Ashbrook, of Hooversville. In addition to these, Mr. Lape is survived by 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The deceased was a member of the Maple Springs congregation of the Church of the Brethren for a long time.
