TAKE NOTICE.--That an Inquisition will be held on the estate of the said Christian Mangus, dec’d, on the premises, to be parted, bounded and described as follows, to-wit:  A certain tract of land situate in Washington twp., Indiana Co., adjoining lands of James Lewis, Andrew Farren, Joseph McGara and others, containing one hundred and forty acres more or less.

 

Also, another tract or piece of land situate in White tp., Indiana Co., adjoining lands of W.H. Coleman, Silas Long, William Hammers and others, containing eight acres more or less, on

JOHN J. WEIBLE, OF DAVIDSVILLE, DIES

 

Septuagenarian Was Native of Paint Township; Funeral Tomorrow

 

Davidsville, Dec. 20 -- John J. Weible, aged 71 years, of this place, died at his home at 1 o'clock yesterday morning. He was born in Paint Township, Somerset County, January 24, 1855, the son of the late Jonathan and Nancy (Manges) Weible. He was married on October 3, 1878, to the late Rachel Beabes, at the German Baptist Church, Paint Township, by the late Rev. Hiram Musselman. His first wife died at the home here on July 22, 1897.

 

Two years later Mr. Weible and Sophia Thomas were united in marriage by the Rev. Dr. William Alfred Shipman at the parsonage of the First Lutheran Church, Johnstown. Mr. Weible was a member of the Davidsville Lutheran Church and was associated with Holsopple Lodge, No. 583, I.O.O.F.

 

The deceased is survived by his widow, Sophia (Thomas) Weible, and the following children: Mrs. J.L. Kaufman, of Davidsville; Charles B., of Robbinsville, N.C.; Mrs. H.O. Anderson and Thomas J., both of 526 Wood street, Johnstown. These brothers and sisters survive:  Mrs. Caroline Miller, of Scalp Level; Mrs. Mary Kaltenbaugh, of Franklin street, Johnstown, and Samuel of Stoystown. The surviving grandchildren are:  Mary Agnes, Clayton R. and John Wesley, children of Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Kaufman, of Davidsville. Funeral services will be conducted in the Davidsville Lutheran Church at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, in charge of the Rev. Maurice R. Gortner. Interment will be in the Davidsville Cemetery.

Funeral of J.J. Weible

 

Davidsville -- Dec. 20 -- Funeral services for the late John J. Weible, aged 71, whose death occurred yesterday morning, will be conducted at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in the Lutheran church in charge of the Rev. Maurice R. Gortner, pastor. Interment will be in the Davidsville cemetery.

 

Mr. Weible is survived by his second wife, Mrs. Sophia Thomas Weible and the following children; Mrs. J.L. Kaufman, this place; Charles R. Weibel, Robbinsville, N.C.; Mrs. H. O. Anderson and Thomas J. Weible, both of 526 Wood street, Johnstown. Mr. Weible was a brother of Mrs. Caroline Miller, Scalp Level; Mrs. Mary Kaltenbaugh, Franklin street, Johnstown, and Samuel Weible, Stoyestown.

 

The will of John J. Weible, late of Conemaugh Township, was probated January 12. He bequeathed $100 to his son, Charles, $100 to his daughter Minnie and $100 to his daughter Ada. The remainder of his estate real and personal he bequeathed in equal shares to his widow, Sophia Weible, and his son Thomas. Sophia Weible is appointed executrix. The will was dated May 7, 1908, and witnessed by Robert C. Barndt and Lemon K. Kaufman.

Samuel Weible

 

Kantner, Dec. 10 -- Samuel Weible, aged 77, died Saturday night at his home here. He had been in poor health for the last two years, suffering form a complication of diseases. The deceased was a son of Jonathan and Nancy (Manges) Weible, both deceased.

 

Surviving are a son, John, of Kantner; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Kaltenbaugh of Johnstown and Mrs. Joseph Miller of Scalp Level, and three grandchildren. A daughter, Miss Mary Weible, died 32 years ago.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at the Otterbein United Brethren Church at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon by Rev. Frank Wetzel, pastor of the Hooversville Reformed Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery in charge of J.H. Blanset, Stoyestown mortician.

Mrs. Elizabeth Ott

 

Elizabeth, wife of Daniel Ott, whose death, which occurred at 1:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home on Horner street, Seventh Ward, was mentioned in these columns last evening, was born March 19, 1860, in Paint Township, Somerset County, between Hooversville and Davidsville.

 

Her father is Jonathan Weible, who makes his home with his son John, at Davidsville.

 

Mr. Ott and the departed were joined in the bonds of matrimony at Scalp Level on April 28, 1878, Justice John Seese officiating. Nine children were born to this union, viz: Sadie, aged seventeen, wife of Charles Barron, of the Seventh Ward; Helen, aged fifteen; Herman, thirteen; Robert, Eleven; Annie, deceased; Chester, seven; Harry, five; Elma, three years, and Mary, three days.

 

Besides the above she is survived by her father, two brothers -- John, of Davidsville, and Samuel, of near Hooversville; and two sisters, Caroline, wife of Joseph Miller, of Scalp Level, and Mary, wife of Henry Kaltenbaugh, of the Seventeenth Ward.

 

The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock to-morrow afternoon from Trinity Lutheran Church, corner of Pine and Hickory streets, Rev. G. W.W. Amick, to officiate. Interment will be made in Sandyvale Cemetery.

Daniel Ott, 88, Dies at Home

 

WINDBER--Daniel Ott, 88, died last evening at his farm home in Paint Twp., near Camp Hamilton. Mr. Ott, former Johnstown lumberman, had for the past years been a farmer in this area. He was a brother of the late David Ott, one-time lumber dealer in the Seventh Ward.

 

The deceased was born in Paint Twp. on Jan. 8, 1858, a son of Peter and Elizabeth (Weible) Ott. His first wife died in 1895. His second wife, Mrs. Anna (Croyle) Burkett-Ott, died in 1939. Surviving are eight children -- Mrs. Ella Gearhart, Ironton, O.; Herman A. Ott, Beechwood Ave., Geistown; Robert Ott, Paint Twp.; Chester Ott, Horner St., Johnstown; Harry Ott, Windber; Elmer Ott, Windber R.D. 1; Dewey Ott, Paint Twp., and Grant Ott, Carlisle. There are 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. He also leaves four step-children -- Mrs. Fred Ott, Paint Twp.; William Burkett, Pine St., Johnstown; Minnie Burkett, Cleveland, O., and Frank Burkett, Johnstown.

 

Mr. Ott was a brother of Mahlon Ott, Paint Twp., and Mrs. Frank B. Kinzey, Johnstown.

 

Funeral arrangements, in charge of the Meek Funeral Home, are incomplete.

RITES ON SUNDAY FOR WELL-KNOWN FERNDALE WOMAN

 

Mrs. Mary Kaltenbaugh, 75, well known in the Windber and Scalp Level region as well as Johnstown and Ferndale, died at Lee Hospital at 2:20 o'clock yesterday afternoon. She had been a medical patient at the institution for three weeks. Mrs. Kaltenbaugh was the widow of Henry Kaltenbaugh, who died October 22, 1933, in Ferndale.

 

Born in Paint Township, Somerset County, on December 4, 1864, Mrs. Kaltenbaugh was the daughter of Jonathan and Nancy Weible. Following her marriage she and her husband lived for many years in the Scalp Level sector, coming to Johnstown a number of years ago to reside at 834 Harlan Avenue, Ferndale. Surviving Mrs. Kaltenbaugh are a son, Murry O. Kaltenbaugh, 834 Harlan Avenue and two daughters, Betty, wife of Reuben Wirick, Scalp Level, and Lulu, wife of Calvin Shaffer, Rockwood R.D. 3. There are 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the St. Thomas Lutheran Church, near Scalp Level, Rev. Roy J. Meyer of Trinity Lutheran Church and Rev. Russell Shilling of the Davidsville Lutheran Church to officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The remains of Mrs. Kaltenbaugh may be viewed at the family residence until 2 p.m. Sunday.

 

Six relatives of Mrs. Kaltenbaugh will serve as pallbearers -- Howard, Herbert, and Ralph Wirick, Cyril Clark, Murry Shaffer and John Boytovich. The Meek Funeral Home, Windber, is in charge of arrangements.

H.C. KALTENBAUGH CALLED BY DEATH

 

Retired Carpenter and Contractor of Hystone Heights Ill for Several Months

 

Henry C. Kaltenbaugh, aged 73 of 1579 Franklin Street, Hystone, died yesterday afternoon at 3:15 o'clock at his home following an illness of several months of a complication of diseases. He had been bedfast of the last 18 weeks. Mr. Kaltenbaugh lapsed into unconsciousness on Saturday when members of his family were called to his bedside.

 

Henry C. Kaltenbaugh was a son of Christian and Catherine (Naugle) Kaltenbaugh, both deceased, and was born July 5, 1860, in Paint Township, Somerset County. He and Miss Mary Weible were married in December 1885, and moved to Goshen, Ind., where they spent a few years.

 

They returned to Paint Township, where Mr. Kaltenbaugh purchased a number of lots and erected many homes in Dulltown, Scalp Level and later in Ferndale Borough. He assisted in building the St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Somerset County. For the last two years Mr. Kaltenbaugh had been retired.

 

Surviving are his widow and three children: Murry Kaltenbaugh, intermarried with Miss Marion Howard and residing at 1538 Franklin Street, Hystone Heights; Nellie, wife of Reuben Wirick of Scalp Level, and Lulu, wife of Calvin Shaffer of Windber. Surviving also are 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A son, Theodore Kaltenbaugh, passed away September 17, 1930.

 

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon, the cortege to leave the Kaltenbaugh home at 1:30 o'clock for the St. Thomas Lutheran Church, where services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Roy Meyer, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, will officiate and will be assisted by Rev. Russell T. Schilling, pastor of the St. Thomas Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery in charge of G.C. Meek, Windber mortician.

Six nephews of the deceased will serve as pallbearers. They are George, Sylvester and Eben Kaltenbaugh and Lorenzo, George and Jacob Weible.

In the name of God Amen, I Thomas Washington of Rayne Township County of Indiana and State of Pennsylvania being of sound mind and memory do hereby make publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament in manner and form following; hereby revoking any will or wills heretofore made by me. First I direct all my just debts and funeral expenses to be fully paid and satisfied as soon as conveniently may be after my decease. I give and bequeath my real estate that is my farm to my two sons John and David Washington and my personal property is to remaine on the farm for the use of the two boys and for the use of my wife Mary and my daughter Jane. My wife Mary is to have her living of the farm as long as she remains my widow provided she stays on the farm and my daughter Jannie is to have her living of the farm as long as she remains single and if Jannie gets married John and David is to pay her five hundred dollars to be paid Three hundred when she is married and two hundred in one year from the date of her marriage without interest, and also John & David must give her one cow she to have her pick of the cows. My wife Mary and my daughter Janey is to have control of two rooms in the house upstairs the two rooms in the south end of the house and to have privilege to cook in the kitchen and to occupy the setting room with the rest of the family. Then I give my daughter Elizabeth four hundred dollars. Then I give to my daughter Liddie four hundred dollars. Then I give to my daughter Julie Ann four hundred dollars and all my household goods in my house is to remain in the house for the use of the house and my horses and cows and sheep and hogs and cattle is to be left on the farm and all my farming implements is to be left on the farm for the use of the farm. In witness whereof I have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal this 28th day of May A.D. 1888.
