B BARTHOLOMEW SIEGRIST
Born BALDENHEIM, BAS RHIN, ALSACE, FRANCE 27-FEB-1697
Died EARL TWP, LANCASTER CO, PENNSYLVANIA CA-1768
Parents: BARTHOLOMEUS SIEGRIST and BARBARA _____________
Bartholomew's birth data is from the LDS IGI that reports his siblings were Michael (M family) born 23 April 1695, Rudolph born 29 May 1689, and Anna born 1 April 1692. Their father was born circa 1663, their mother circa 1667, and their parents married circa 1688. All events supposedly occurred in Baldenheim, located south of Strasbourg, Bas Rhin, France.

Bartholomew Siegrist was listed on the passenger list for the port of Philadelphia on 27 September 1727, the first day such lists were required, as arriving on the ship "James Goodwill" from Rotterdam, last from Falmouth, with David Crockett as master. Bartholomew was head of a family of four. His brother Michael Siegrist (M), head of family of six, was also on this ship.

Bartholomew settled on 301 acres straddling Cocalico Creek in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where the creek is the line between Earl and Warwick Townships. This property was surveyed 12 March 1738 and warranted 15 October 1851. At least two other parcels were surveyed and warranted in the name Bartholomew, but one or both could have been for Bartholomew's son of the same name.

Bartholomew, Sr. was naturalized in the town of Lancaster on 10 September 1761, being recognized as among those who scrupled against oaths.

On 11 September 1767, he wrote his will, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, C-76, and it was accepted for probate 6 December 1768. He was survived by his wife and six children. Although his son John died before him, John left Bartholomew two grandsons who shared in the estate.

BARTHOLOMEW married BALDENHEIM, BAS RHIN, FRANCE 9-SEP-1720(?) to BS EVE BLAEHLY
Born BALDENHEIM, BAS RHIN, ALSACE, FRANCE 17-SEP-1697
Died EARL TOWNSHIP, LANCASTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA CA-1792
Parents: JOHANNES BLAEHLY and ELISABETH WILLEMANN
Her father was born circa 1670, her mother was born circa 1674, and her parents married 2 May 1695. All events took place at Baldenheim, Bas Rhin. Eve's grandparents were Michael Blaehly, born circa 1644, and his wive Eva, born circa 1648. All of this information is from an LDS Ancestral File and the marriage information is from the LDS IGI that gave her name as "Eva". According to this information, she died 2 February 1756 and she may have married in 1721 instead of 1720. Since Eva's will was proved in December of 1792, clearly the 1756 date is in error.

Eve's will, recorded as 2Y-250 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, was proved 31 December 1792. The date it was written is not given, but it was apparently after the deaths of her son Solomon in 1782 and her daughter Eve since they are not mentioned in Eve's will. She names as her heirs her daughter Susanna, the daughter of her deceased son Bartholomew, and her son Lorentz, who was executor. She pointed out that the sons John and Solomon of her deceased son John had received their shares of her estate. Her daughter Barbara, married to Michael Zug, was not mentioned in Eve's will. Whether this means that she was dead or simply that she had also received her share of the estate is not clear.

B1 JOHN SIEGRIST
Born PROBABLY IN EUROPE
Died BEF-1758
We do not know John's wife's name, her dates of birth and death, nor whether she remarried. There were at least three parcels of land warranted to John Siegrist/Segrist/Seagrist in Lancaster in the 1740s, but whether any of them were for John or another John Siegrist is uncertain.

B2 BARTHOLOMEW SEGRIST
Born EUROPE CA-1720
Died CA-1777
Residence LANCASTER and CUMBERLAND COUNTIES, PENNSYLVANIA His year of age is based upon his reported age when his parents immigrated in 1727. As a child, he lived on Cocalico Creek which is the boundary between Earl and Warwick Townships in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

In 1771-1773, he was taxed on one hundred sixty acres in Warwick Township in Lancaster County. We presume he lived there. Later, Bartholomew moved to Cumberland County, where he died in Antrim Township.

Several of his sons settled in the part of Cumberland County that became Mifflin County when it was formed in 1789. The homes of two sons of his deceased brother John (B1) were in the part of Antrim Township, Cumberland County, that became part of Franklin County in 1784.

In this will, #35 on page 79 of Cumberland County Will Book C, written 8 July 1777 and proved 27 July 1777, Bartholomew made it clear that Henry and Solomon were his eldest sons, but that in 1777 they had not yet come "to a mature age". Much of what we know about the early Secrists in this line comes from this will and from the estate records of Bartholomew's son Michael.

According to an abstract of page 514 of Franklin County Deed Book 2, two properties, one dated 12 July 1766 and a second 12 January 1773, by their patent granted two tracts of land to Robert McCrea - Patents recorded in Philadelphia, Office of Recording Deeds Patent Book A.A. Vol. 8, p. 204 and Vol B, p. 329 - said Robert McCrea conveyed to Bartholomew Segrist. Then, by the last will and testament of Bartholomew Siegrist, these two tracts in Antrim Township were conveyed to his sons Henry (B21) and Solomon (B22).
BARTHOLOMEW married to
B2S SUSAN ___________
Died AFTER 1777
In his will, Bartholomew gave his home and three hundred pounds to his wife Susan. The plantation went to his sons.

B3 SOLOMON SIEGRIST
Born EUROPE
Died EARL TWP, LANCASTER CO, PENNSYLVANIA 5-DEC-1781
Solomon was willed half of his father's 301 acre farm and left everything to his wife except for 10 pounds sterling yearly to his mother, 100 pounds to Solomon, his brother Bartholomew's (B2) son, and 50 pounds to Solomon, his brother Lorentz' (B4) son.

Apparently, Solomon did not have children of his own. His will was written 11 December 1770 and a codicil was written, but not signed, the night he died, bestowing the above amounts. Probably he delayed making the codicil because he thought, that not having been naturalized, his will would not be valid. He was reassured on this point and dictated the terms but, when asked to sign the document, he said he was too tired to do so and would sign in it in the morning. He died during the night, but the court accepted the document as his last will and testament.
SOLOMON married to
B3S MARGARET _____________
Margaret is listed as paying taxes on 260 acres in Earl Township in 1782, but we never found her after that time.

B4 JOHAN LORENTZ SIEGRIST
Born PENNSYLVANIA 15-JAN-1731
Died 18-MAY-1825
Buried SOUTH ANNVILLE TWP, LEBANON CO, CO, PENNSYLVANIA
Residence SOUTH ANNVILLE TWP, LEBANON CO, PENNSYLVANIA
Certainly, Bartholomew and Eve Siegrist had a son Johan Lorentz and his birth date as given as above is widely accepted and we have no reason to think he was not born in Pennsylvania. However, a Johan Lorentz Siegrist arrived in Philadelphia aboard the ship "Easter Branch" on 3 October 1753. If this is the same person, he must have traveled to Europe and back before he was 23 years old. While this is not out of the question, it is plausible that these are two different individuals. The birth and death dates above agree with the those on the monument about a mile south of Annville on land that was Lorentz' homestead, although it is not the original marker.

He paid taxes on 150 acres of land in Earl Township of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1771 - 1773 and on 200 acres in what is now Annville Township of Lebanon County in 1779. A Johan Lorentz Siegrist took the oath of allegiance in 1777 and served in the Lancaster County militia during 1782 -1786.
JOHAN LORENTZ married HILL LUTHERAN CHURCH 29-DEC-1767 to B4S MAGDALENA NOLL
Born 31-JAN-1751
Died 13-AUG-1806
Buried SOUTH ANNVILLE TWP, LEBANON CO, CO, PENNSYLVANIA
Parents: GEORGE NOLL and ____________-
Magdalena's death information is from the Hill Evangelical Lutheran Church Book that was written in German, that gives her birth date, father's name, and marriage date, that states she married Lorentz Siegrist, had 13 children and nine survived her. It also gave her age at death and stated her illness was pleurisy and fever. Hill Evangelical Lutheran Church was in what is now North Annville Township, not far from the Lorentz Siegrist homestead.

She was interred with her husband.

B5 BARBARA SIEGRIST
The parish registry for the Hill Evangelical Lutheran Church, located in what is now North Annville Township of Lebanon County, references a marriage between Barbara Sigrist and Michael/Melchoir Winckelman on 18 June 1751. We know of no other Barbara Sigrist in this area and, thus, this may have been for an earlier marriage for Barbara.
BARBARA married to
B5S MICHAEL ZUG
Apparently, Michael and his family settled in the Antrim Township of Cumberland County, now Franklin County, area near Barbara's brother Bartholomew (B2), since Michael was witness for Bartholomew's will. Michael may well have been the son of one of the Zugs, Peter or Ulrich, who immigrated on the same ship as Barbara's parents Bartholomew and Eve Siegrist.

B6 EVE SIEGRIST
In his will her father wrote "my daughter Eve is not able to maintain herself because she has not had her common senses." He therefore arranged for an income on her share to be paid out yearly to Michael Zug, Barbara's husband who was to maintain and keep Eve. Her mother made no mention of Eve in her will, written an unknown interval before her mother's death in December 1792, which would suggest that the daughter may have died before her mother did.

B7 SUSANNA SIEGRIST
Susanna was to receive, by her mother's will, her wearing apparel and a share in her estate along with "Laurence" (B4) and Catherine (B28).
SUSANNA married 13-JUN-1768 to B7S JOHN HUBER
This marriage is found in the record of Reverend John William Heindel, minister of the First Reformed Church in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, reported in Pennsylvania Marriages, 1710 - 1895 by Donna Irish.

· The Codicil to the will was written in German and therefore could not be recorded, but is endorsed as follows: [verbatim] "Be it remembered that on the fourteenth Day of January Anno Domini 1782 appeared before me Christian Starkey (who being conscientiously scrupulous of taking an Oath) on his Solemn affirmation saith That some years before the Death of Solomon Segrist he understood from him in Conversation that he had made a Will, That this Affirmant was well acquainted and intimate with him, and that on the fifth Day of December last about Twilight he was at the House of the said Solomon where he lay in his last Sickness. This affirmant conversed with the said Solomon about settling his affairs and making his will during the Time he continued with him. The said Solomon told him he did not know whether he could do it as he had not taken the Oath of Allegiance. This affirmant replied that he thought he could notwithstanding make his Will. Upon this the said Solomon directed him to draw the Will and mentioned the particular Bequests to him, telling him at the same Time that as to the Rest, his former Will should stand as he had therein directed. Thie Affirmant then committed the same to Writing (as within) in an adjoining Room in the same Words as were delivered to him by the Testator. This affirmant then carried the Will or Codicil, so drawn out to the Room where the Testator lay, and told him he had drawn the Writing out as he had directeed, and was going to read it to him but the Testator told him he was then too weak to execute it, but that he would execute it the next Morning early, but before Day-light the said Solomon expired. This affirmant further saith that during his Conversation with the said Solomon respecting his Will and the Directions given in Consequence thereof that the said Solomon was of sound and perfect Mind Memory and Understanding to the best of this Affirmant's Knowledge Observation and Belief."
