Funeral of Jas. Shaw.

The funeral of Uncle Jas. Shaw who died yesterday morning at 11 o'clock will be held Sunday at 11 o'clock at the Fowler chapel. Mr. Shaw was 76 years old and leaves a wife and a family of seven sons and daughters. They are: Mrs. Robinson, of Kansas City, Mrs. Millard Wilhite, of Emporia, Walter Shaw, of Lawton, Okla., Mrs. Moffett, of Lamont, Okla., Bert, Alice and Irvin, of Emporia. Mr. Shaw has been dangerously sick for some time and about three weeks ago all of his children came home to be present as it was feared he would die then, but he recovered so much that they returned to their homes and his death yesterday was sudden and unexpected. Mrs. Wilhite returned to Lamont with her sister Mrs. Moffett. Lamont is fifty miles from a rail road and it will take some time to get word to her. For that reason the funeral was put off until Sunday as it was Mr. Shaw's wish that all of his children should be present at his funeral. Mr. Shaw came here in the early days and was one of the best known farmers in Lyon county. He was born 76 years ago in Pennsylvania. He came to Kansas in 1856 and was married a year later to Miss Louisa Hammond at Des Moines, Ia. He had been a church member ever since boyhood. He had a large circle of friends to whom the news of his death brings sorrow.

Mrs. Loisa Shaw, one of the pioneer women of Lyon county, died at 8 o'clock yesterday morning, at the Shaw home three miles east of Emporia on the Logan avenue road, where she had lived for half a century. Her husband, James Shaw, died four years ago. The Shaws came to this county in 1857 and took the claim which has ever since been their home. Mrs. Shaw was noted for her charity. She was 72 years of age, and was the mother of seven children, all of whom are here to attend the funeral with the exception of Mrs. Lutie Robinson, of Kansas City. The other children are A.C. Shaw, of Emporia; Mrs. Myrtle Wilhite, Kansas City; Walter Shaw, and Mrs. Kate Moffit, both of Lawton, Okla.; Alice Shaw, who has been living with her mother; and Irvin Shaw, who lives on a farm east of town.

The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. E.J. Gardner, of the Grace M.E. church, of Emporia, at Fowler chapel at 10 o'clock tomorrow, and interment will be made in Maplewood. The pall-bearers will be Lan Fowler, Wesley Fowler, Park Morse, Frank Gray, Jo** **inshaw and Ben Fowler.
