Mr. and
Mrs. Elmer Richards of Lorain came to see Mr. Oliver Chorpening
Sunday.
Mr.
Clifton Chorpening of Ashland has been at the bedside
of his father for a few days.
Mr. and
Mrs. Lester Chorpening of Cleveland were called home
Sunday night on account of the approaching death of his father.
Oliver Chorpening died at his home Monday, November 11, 1912. A
fuller account of his life will be given next week.

Oliver Chorpening Has Passed Away.
Oliver Chorpening, one of Ashland county's well-known and highly
respected citizens passed away at his late home north of Savannah in Ruggles township, at about 7:30 o'clock Monday morning. Mr.
Chorpening had been in ailing for some months, being
a great sufferer from bowel trouble, and he underwent two operations. He was
aged fifty-four years. He leaves two sons and a daughter, Attorney Clifford Chorpening, member of the law firm of Moon and Chorpening of Ashland, is a son. The other son resides in
Cleveland and the daughter lives at the home.
Mr. Chorpening's wife preceded him in death a year ago, she
having sustained fatal injuries by being thrown from a buggy at Savannah.
The
funeral services will be conducted at the family home at 11 o'clock Wednesday
morning by Rev. Chase, pastor of the Congregational church of Ruggles. Interment at Ruggles
cemetery.

Oliver Chorpening was born in Troy township August 26, 1858, died
at his home in Ruggles township November 11, 1912,
aged 54 years, 2 months and 15 days. A year ago Nov. 5th Mr. Chorpening underwent an operation and since that time he
has made a heroic effort to regain his health. He spent last Winter, Spring,
and part of the Summer in the hospital at Cleveland and at the home of his
sister, Mrs. Elmer Richards of Lorain. But the pale horse and his rider
followed him relentlessly and finally death touched him with his dart. He came
back to Ruggles last August. Mr. Chorpening
leaves three sons and a daughter, Clifton, who lives in Ashland, Lester, who
lives in Cleveland, Miss Nellie and Roy, who live at the home. Funeral services
were held at the home Wednesday, Nov. 13, conducted by his pastor, Rev. E.B.
Chase. Mr. Chase gave a fitting talk on the religious views of Mr. Chorpening and his final acceptance of the Savior. He
joined the First Congregational church of Ruggles,
September 22, 1912. He was buried in the cemetery at Ruggles,
O. The family have the sympathy of the neighborhood in their sorrow; and
especially the little boy who is left without father or mother.
Miss
Nellie Chorpening intends to go to school in Wooster,
and Roy will make his home in Cleveland with Mr. and Mrs. Lester Chorpening.
